20 Most Popular Dog Breeds in the U.S.

In the market to buy or adopt a dog and curious about the most popular dog breeds in the U.S.? As Bill Murray once said, “I’m suspicious of people who don’t like dogs, but I trust a dog when it doesn’t like a person.” Dogs have been man’s best friend for centuries. These animals love us unconditionally. Each year the American Kennel Club ranks 197 dog breeds based on registered owners.

Here are the 20 most popular dog breeds in the U.S. for 2022:

1) Labrador Retriever

2) French Bull Dog

One of the most popular breeds for celebritiesThe French Bulldog originated when English Bulldogs were bred with Pugs and Terriers after bull-baiting was banned in England in 1835. The smaller breed became a favorite companion for the Nottingham lace workers as the small Bulldogs loved to sit on laps and kept the workers warm.

3) Golden Retriever

The Golden Retriever, an exuberant Scottish gundog of great beauty, stands among America’s most popular dog breeds. They are serious workers at hunting and field work, as guides for the blind, and in search-and-rescue, enjoy obedience and other competitive events, and have an endearing love of life when not at work.

4) German Shepherd

German Shepherds are famous for their intelligent, loyal, and hardworking natures. They are often used as guide, therapy, search-and-rescue, police, military, and narcotics and explosives detecting dogs. While they can come across as aloof to strangers, they are known to be wonderful family dogs.

5) Poodle

Poodles are extremely intelligent and are easily trained. They are agile and graceful as well as smart, and they enjoy and excel in a variety of canine sports, including agility, obedience, and tracking. They are excellent water-retrievers and also compete in dock diving and retriever hunt tests.

6) Bulldog

Dependable and predictable, the bulldog is a wonderful family pet and loving to most children. People-oriented as a breed, they actively solicit human attention. However, they have retained the courage that was originally bred into them for bull baiting, so they make fine watchdogs.

7) Beagle

The beagle is best known for rabbit hunting, although the breed also has been used to hunt animals as diverse as jackals and wild pigs. Although some beagles are still used individually or in packs for hunting, most beagles today are lovable house pets.

8) Rottweiler

This breed acquired its name from the old free city of Rottweil and was known as the “Rottweil butcher’s dog”. The butchers bred this type of dog purely for performance and usefulness. In due course, a first rate watch and driving dog evolved which could also be used as a draught do

9) German Short-Haired Pointer

German Shorthaired Pointers are extremely versatile hunting dogs. Bred to be instinctive hunting all-rounders, these multitasking dogs can hunt, point, and retrieve, and have been used to hunt quarry of all kinds, including rabbits, raccoons, game birds, and even deer.

10) Dachshund

Despite their size, dachshunds are known for their courageous nature and will take on animals much larger than themselves. Some may be aggressive toward strangers and other dogs. As family dogs, dachshunds are loyal companions and good watchdogs. They are good with children if treated well.

11) Pembroke Welsh Corgi

The Pembroke Welsh Corgi is known as one of the most agreeable of small house dogs and is a loyal, loving pet for families. They also are known for their intelligence and enthusiasm for working. Many Pembrokes compete in dog sports, such as agility, herding, conformation, obedience, and more.

12) Australian Shepherd

The breed is considered highly intelligent and easy to train. Aussies are known for being especially eager to please their owners. True to their herding instincts, Aussies are very protective of their families and territory and will let you know if strangers approach, but they are not considered aggressive.

13) Yorkshire Terrior

Yorkshire Terriors are long-lived and hypoallergenic (the coat is more like human hair than animal fur), and they make fine little watchdogs. This is a true ‘personality breed,’ providing years of laughs, love, and close companionship.

14) Boxer

Loyalty, affection, intelligence, work ethic, and good looks: Boxers are the whole doggy package. Bright and alert, sometimes silly, but always courageous, the Boxer has been among America’s most popular dog breeds for a very long time

15) Cavalier King Charles Spaniel

The Cavalier King Charles spaniel is an enchantingly affectionate, playful, intelligent dog that eagerly indulges its guardians with endearing devotion. Shyness and aggression, fortunately, are not part of this breed’s behavioral milieu.

16) Doberman Pinscher

Dobermans are very intelligent, learn easily, respond quickly, and make loving and fun companions. However, they are very strong dogs and can become pushy, destructive, and unmanageable if not raised properly. Socialization starting in puppyhood is imperative, as is obedience training

17) Great Dane

Great Danes are considered gentle giants. They are moderately playful, affectionate and good with children. They will guard their home. Great Danes generally get along with other animals, particularly if raised with them, but some individuals in the breed can be aggressive with dogs they do not know.

18) Minature Schnauzer

Created to be all-around farm dogs and ratters, they are tough, muscular, and fearless without being aggressive. The Miniature Schnauzer is a bright, friendly, trainable companion, small enough to adapt to apartment life but tireless enough to patrol acres of farmland. They get along well with other animals and kids.

19) Siberian Husky

The Siberian Husky, a thickly coated, compact sled dog of medium size and great endurance, was developed to work in packs, pulling light loads at moderate speeds over vast frozen expanses. This northern breed is friendly, fastidious, and dignified

20) Bernese Mountain Dog

Big, powerful, and built for hard work, the Bernese Mountain Dog is also strikingly beautiful and blessed with a sweet, affectionate nature. Berners are generally placid but are always up for a romp with the owner, whom they live to please.

Now while these are the most popular dog breeds in the U.S., that does not mean that we love the hundreds of other breeds any less.

The 5 Love Languages

By now, I’m sure most people are familiar with the Five Love Languages by Gary Chapman.  If you aren’t, to summarize they are:  Words of Affirmation, Physical Touch, Receiving Gifts, Quality Time and Acts of Service. Chapman  initially wrote the book to help marriages keep the love alive and learn to understand each other on a deeper level.

A description of the 5 love languages.

Here is a little summary of each of the 5 love languages:

Words of Affirmation: Saying encouraging things, appreciating what people do for you, empathizing, actively listening. Not criticizing or belittling.

Physical Touch: Non-verbal actions, body language to show affection (hugging, holding hands, cuddling, etc.)

Receiving Gifts: Thoughtful gifts to make someone feel like you’re paying attention or, likewise, making them feel like a priority. Not just buying things just to buy them.

Quality Time: Uninterrupted conversation or one on one time.

Acts of Service: “Let me help with that,” “I can do that for you,” being a partner for your partner.

The point is that people give and receive love differently. It’s important to understand not only how you give love, but how other people need to be loved. People have different needs and understanding those needs is essential for any relationship to flourish.

Likewise, these 5 love languages be implemented during self care. Here are some examples:

Words of Affirmation:

  • Self affirmations to demonstrate positive self talk
  • Gratitude journal
  • Having a progress over perfection attitude
  • Accepting your feelings regardless of what they are

Physical Touch:

  • Get a massage
  • Go to the gym to demonstrate muscle activation
  • Masturbation
  • Cozy Blankets to emphasize comfort
  • Baths/Showers

Receiving Gifts:

  • Buy yourself flowers
  • Be cautious of “treating yourself” – might lead to debt, guilt or bad habits
  • Don’t buy yourself things just to mask issues

Quality Time:

  • Block out “me” time
  • Put phone on “do not disturb”
  • Go for a walk alone in order to connect back with nature
  • Meditate in order to recharge
  • Float therapy

Acts of Service:

  • Make a healthy meal in order to fuel your body with what it needs
  • Tidy up your environment
  • Go to bed early because quality sleep is essential for productivity and better mood
  • Do things just because you love yourself

Love is physical, emotional and mental. Make sure you’re fueling yourself with all aspects of love. Remember, self love ISN’T selfish. If you are interested, take this FREE quiz in order to find out what your love language is.

30 Lessons I Learned Before I Turned Thirty

30. Let me type that again. T H I R T Y ! At 32, I still cannot believe that I am in my thirties.

Turning thirty truly is a milestone in life. Your twenties are seen as the years where you are figuring out who you in order to “find yourself” while your thirties are seen as a time to really embrace who you have become as a person. Society puts a lot of pressure on people to figure their sh*t out by this age or that age.

Don’t get me wrong, I have fallen into that trap many times. Wondering if I am where I should be by 30. “I can’t believe I haven’t finished writing my first book,” “Ugh, why do I not own my own home yet?” “I wish my life was more like…..” STOP. Back it up. Let’s try this again…

Every year on my birthday, I like to reflect on my life in order to see how far I have come and how much growth I still have to look forward to. I treat my birthday like the New Year because my birthday is the beginning of another chapter of my life. And much like New Years, I tend to make intentions for the year ahead.

However, as I was approaching my 30th birthday, I realized that I have learned a lot of truly important life lessons that will hopefully be a good foundation for my future.

Lessons that allowed me to celebrate my victories and my failures, get to know myself on a deeper level and showed me that success is a matter of perspective.

All that being said, here are 30 lessons I learned before I turned 30:

  1. Throw out the timeline

Honestly, my life is nowhere near where I thought it would be by 30. I thought I would be married with at least one kid, living in a house with a white picket fence all while juggling motherhood and my own business. We are conditioned to believe that we need to have this whole life thing figured out but the truth is, no one really knows what they are doing. Even the people that appear to have their sh*t together.

But here I am. 30, single, childless, without a home to call my own and you know what? That is OKAY! It doesn’t mean I failed or that I won’t someday have all of those things. It just means that the choices I have made up until this point led me on a different path. I am taking the scenic route to my dream life. And on the way I ended up following my passion for helping people, opening my heart to what else life has to offer, finding things out about myself that I never knew, filling my life with so many adventures and memories and truly living my best life.

2. Travel often

“Traveling leaves you speechless, then it turns you into a storyteller” – Ibn Battuta

I made a goal when I was 20 to see all 50 states before my 30th birthday. I didn’t reach that goal, however, I was able to see some incredible places. And every place I went, I felt like I found a new piece of myself. I found out more about myself and about how different and not so different people live throughout the country. The more I traveled, the more I learned. The more I learned, the more I craved to learn more. To explore more.

I think my favorite part about traveling is getting to know people. Having conversations with people who live and think or even look differently than you opens your world up to so many things. Life is so much more than the bubble you surround yourself with. This world is so much bigger than us and we need to explore it, learn about it and appreciate it.

3. Move your body

4. Get more sleep

5. Find 3 hobbies: one to make you money, one to keep you in shape and one to be creative

6. Learn your love language

I am sure by now you have heard of the 5 Love Languages. But if you haven’t they are: Words of Affirmation, Physical Touch, Quality Time, Gifts and Acts of Service.

Everyone gives and receives love in one of these five ways and it is important to not only understand how you receive love, but how the people you love receive love as well. When we understand the way others love to be shown love, we are able to love them better. We allow ourselves to fulfill other’s needs more effectively. When we understand how we need to be loved, we learn to not accept anything short of that kind of love.

7. Don’t lost your inner child

Ever heard the saying, “Growing old is mandatory, growing up is optional?” Why is this one of my 30 lessons I learned before 30? Because I feel like that is the best way to approach life. There is nothing we can do about getting older, however, we are only as old as we feel. There is no age when you need to stop believing in the magic of Disney or avoid wearing matching Christmas pajamas. Life doesn’t have to be serious all of the time. Make sure that you are filling your life with laughter and joy.

8. Relationships are here for a reason, a season or a lifetime

This was probably one of the biggest lessons I learned, especially in the last 5 or so years. Relationships are weird. No matter how strong a relationship is at one point in time, there is always the possibility of thinks not working out how you hoped. A friend that felt like family might leave your side, a family member might not show up when you need them, a partner might fall out of love with you.

What is important to realize is that there are levels to relationships. Some are there for the long haul. Those are the people that, even if you don’t see or talk to every day, they are still always there for you. Then you have the people who are there temporarily during a certain stage of your life but you eventually outgrow each other because well…life happens. The ones that seem to sting the most are the ones that are meant to teach you a lesson. There is a reason those people came into your life and sometimes figuring out that reason is how you become a better version of yourself.

9. Deal with your trauma

This is one of the biggest of the 30 lessons I learned before 30. I used to bottle up absolutely everything by sweeping my issues under the rug and focusing more on listening than speaking. I figured they were out of sight, out of mind. But they always found their way to creep back into my life and haunt me worse than before.

I decided to start facing my trauma a little at a time. Reflect on what I had been through, accept it as my reality, and only then was I able to truly start to heal. Your problems won’t just go away just because you don’t talk about them. They just end up creating more anxiety within you until you can’t control it any longer.

10. Wash your face!!

Rachel Hollis had a point with this one. Girl, WASH YOUR FACE! But seriously, her book aside, wash your face. Take care of your damn skin when you’re young. Use clean, quality products. Your future skin will thank me. Beautycounter, perhaps?

11. Slow down & BREATHE

12. Save your money

13. Be grateful every day

14. Practice mindfulness

15. Spend time with the people you love

I don’t think this one needs a whole lot of explanation. Life is short. You never know how long you have with the people you love. Hug them. Cherish them.

Don’t let too much time go by without telling your parents that you love them or let a fight with a friend stop you from being friends. Don’t let your ego destroy a relationship with a partner. Find the people you love and don’t let them go.

16. Closure isn’t required

This is a tough one because at the end of the day, we all want to know why something didn’t work out. Unfortunately, more often than not, we don’t get that closure that we feel like we need. And sometimes, no response, is a response. And if someone can’t give us an explanation as to why they did or said something or ghosted us…do we really want those types of people in our lives anyways?

17. Failure isn’t a bad thing

Fail. Let me say it again. F A I L. I beg you. Fall on your a$$ and learn to be resilient. It is so much more important to try and fail than to never try at all. Will is hurt? Absolutely. Will you feel like giving up sometimes? Hell yes. But when you finally succeed, it will feel that much sweeter because you know that it took a heck of a lot of hard work and consistency. It took a lot of punches to the gut, blood, sweat and tears. In the end, all the failures will be worth it.

18. Balance is key

As a Libra, I am all about balance. Work-life balance. Structure and chaos. Yin and Yang. Never take life too seriously but never take it serious enough. Don’t spend your 20s and 30s busting your butt in the corporate world with hopes of retiring and kicking back and enjoying life by 40. Live life now and live life when you’re 40.

19. Decluttering your space, declutters your mind

Between Marie Kondo and The Home Edit, my organization and cleanliness has gotten more intense than ever before. Not only do I thoroughly enjoy having systems with my organization, but it is so practical and makes cleaning up a mess that much easier.

I started to realize I had too much stuff. I would purge here and there and donate my gently used items and realized that the more I did that, the easier it became to let things go. And the more materialistic things I let go, the more clutter was free from my mind. I didn’t hoard my thoughts anymore. I realized that by holding on to too many things, it was my crutch to hold onto too many things in my head as well. And I didn’t want to do that anymore. I wanted to be rid of the clutter and organize the chaos so I could feel light and free.

20. Always be curious & willing to learn

This was a life lesson I learned from my 6 year old niece. She asks “why” more than any human I have ever met. She asks us such intelligent questions completely, unintentionally. And I love that about her. She isn’t afraid to challenge things and form her own opinion. She isn’t afraid to educate herself. I feel like we were all like that at one point and somewhere along the way, we lost the motivation to be curious. She inspires me to live life more curiously. To try and see things from the lens of a 6 year old by letting life excite me and interest me and to learn about things that I do not know while not being afraid to ask questions.

21. Learn to love yourself

22. Health is wealth

23. Pick a career that aligns with your passion & money will follow

24. Trust you gut

25. Don’t be afraid to be vulnerable

I have had my heart broken many times, especially in my twenties. The pain doesn’t last forever and it is so important that you keep putting yourself out there. Being vulnerable is scary as hell, but it can also be so exciting. Especially when that time comes that you find your special someone.

If you never try, you’ll never know. And I would rather have loved and lost than to never have loved at all. I am a hopeless romantic living in what seems to be a romantically hopeless world and yet, I never give up hope. I allow my heart to feel what it feels and no, feelings are not always reciprocated and that is okay. Just don’t stop trying, k?

26. Everyone knows something you don’t

If you are the smartest person in the room, you are in the WRONG room! Don’t get me wrong, I love learning things and teaching them to other people. But I also want to learn from other people. I like to have conversations with people who’s views differ from mine. People who experience life differently than me. People who learned things a different way. 2+2=4, but so does 3+1 or 4+0.

Seeing life from different perspectives allows you to develop your own thoughts and opinions beyond the what you may have thought you knew.

27. Manifestation works

Okay, maybe not 100% of what you say you want comes true, but I am a strong believer in what you put out into the world comes back to you. When you want something bad enough, you work for it. You fight for it. And by manifesting the life you want, you put it out into the universe that you are ready for it. And when things align, then you get what you asked for.

28. Small progress is still progress

29. Being kind is cool

30. It’s about the journey, not the destination

I never want to reach a point in life and think, “Okay, I crossed everything off my bucket list, now what?” I want to enjoy all the little moments, go on endless adventures, travel the world, find my love story. I want to keep growing as a person, change the world, see the beauty in each day and know I am exactly where I am supposed to be.

Take it all in and just BE.

I Tried One of the World’s Cleanest Beauty Brands, BeautyCounter – Here Are My Thoughts

“The average woman applies 80 chemicals to her body before breakfast daily through 3 types of products: makeup, hair care and skincare…It’s the yuck in our life. We are in constant chemical exhaustion.” – Harnisch

beautycounter

Let’s talk facts, shall we?

The last time Congress passed a major bill to regulate the cosmetic industry was in 1938.

The European Union has banned nearly 1400 ingredients and the U.S. has only restricted about 30.

Although they strongly discourage the use of some of these products, the law does not stop the beauty industry from using ingredients that have been linked to health problems (cancer, infertility, hormone disruption and early puberty).

In 2012, 400 types of lipstick contained lead.

Formaldehyde and formaldehyde releasers are in 1/5 of all cosmetic products in the U.S. And brands can market themselves as natural and still contain these harmful chemicals. Beauty companies are encouraged, but not enforced, to have less than 0.2% formaldehyde in cosmetic products.

There re a bunch of endocrine-disrupting chemicals in skincare that mess with hormones. These things mimic hormone molecules and cause chaos in the body: BPA and pythalates, dioxin, Atrazine, perchlorate, fire retardants, lead, arsenic, mecury, PFCs, organophosphate pesticides, glycol ethers and soy.

Also, you can’t trust products that claim to be chemical-free. That’s impossible. Matter = Chemicals.

That’s why I’m such a big fan of the brand Beautycounter. They have a mission statement that shows they share the same values about skincare as I do. “One by one, we are leading a movement to a future where all beauty is clean beauty. We are powered by people, and our collective mission is to get safer products into the hands of everyone. Formulate, advocate, and educate – that’s our motto for creating products that truly perform while holding ourselves to unparalleled standards of safety. Why? It’s really simple: beauty should be good for you.”

I tried BeautyCounter for the first time in 2019. Little by little I have been testing products. And honestly, I have loved every single product I have tried. My collection began with the cleansing oil, resurfacing peel and a lip sheer. It has since grown to oils, serums, cleansers, lip sheers, eye cream, eyeshadow, bronzer, blush, face wipes, eyeliner, foundation, and even under eye patches.

To this day, I continue to use BeautyCounter products in my everyday routine. The All Bright collection is a must, IMO. Also, I haven’t found a clean foundation that comes even close to theirs.

If you have any interest in beautycounter or even have questions about the brand, I would recommend talking to Amanda Seyfert on Instagram @amandaelaine6. She has been so informative about the products and definitely has a passion for clean beauty.

I won’t compromise when it comes to the health of my skin. Will you?

I Love Their Hens, You’ll Love Their Eggs

Pasture-raised, free range, cage free, brown, white. How does anyone know what kind of eggs they should buy? Vital Farms breaks down the confusion around eggs in order to give us all the facts.

Let’s break it down, shell we?

When it comes to shell color, all this tells you is what kind of chicken it came from. For example: Hy-line Browns lay brown eggs. Brown eggs tend to be more expensive because the hens that lay them are bigger.

The eggshells protect the eggs while a chick grows inside. Similar to humans, the older we get, the more risk during pregnancy. The older a hen gets, the thinner the shells become when laid. Ever get an egg that is slightly harder to crack? Well, you have an egg from a young hen (aka a spring chicken).

About the yolk:

Yolk color has everything to do with a chicken’s diet. The ideal yolk should be a vibrant orange color. Free Range eggs tend to have this vibrancy to their yolks due to the chickens having and extremely nutritious diet.

Ever get a double yolk? According to Vital Farms, these are like finding a four-leaf clover. If you ever get one, know that it is coming from a young chicken that is just beginning to lay eggs. This is because they are learning to get the right timing.

Other egg-citing facts:

The “egg snot” or chalazae is a good sign for determining freshness.

Eggs are a great source of Vitamin D – a vitamin that humans are commonly deficient in.

My favorite eggs to purchase at the store are Vital Farms. They are certified non-GMO, humanly raised, and free range. Vital Farms is so transparent about their practices, and they frequently do “tours” of their farms on Instagram. Not to mention, the customer service is egg-tremely wonderful.

I tried Andy Frisella’s 75 Hard Mental Toughness Challenge – Here are my thoughts

What is 75 Hard?

75 Hard is a Mental Toughness Program that was designed by Andy Frisella. It is a program that is designed to change your life for the better by implementing good habits, improving time management, stopping yourself from making excuses and learning to be more confident in multiple areas of your life.

There are 5 Rules you must follow for 75 consecutive days. Break even one rule and you must start the program over. The program only works with discipline and consistency. Here are the rules:

75 hard

1.) Take a progress picture every day. Yep. Every. Single. Day. Why? Because during this program, there will be big changes. But from day to day, you may not notice because the changes are so small. You won’t see a difference from Day 1 to Day 2, but you can flip back through the pictures and compare Day 20 to Day 1. Basically, it is a physical representation that you have accomplished your tasks for the day.

2.) Drink 1 gallon (4 liters) of water. A lot of common problems people have like having issues concentrating, not sleeping well, not feeling well, etc. can be resolved by drinking more water. For years, the experts have told us to drink 8 cups (64oz) water daily. But did you know that on average, Americans only consume 1.8 cups? That isn’t even 20% of what we should be drinking. Did you also know that depriving your body of even 2% of the water it needs, you are technically dehydrated? Water is essential, so ya gotta drink it.

3.) Read 10 pages of a non-fiction book. Reading makes you a better person. It engages your mind and your heart, and it is an indispensable habit. The brain is a muscle and needs to be worked out the same way we work out our other muscles. Disclaimer: Any book you start, you have to finish.

4.) Follow a diet. This can be whatever diet you want, but no cheat days and no alcohol. “Cheat days” is determined by what your diet plan is. If you’re doing keto and decide to eat a bunch of carbs one day, start over. Similarly, if you are following a vegan/vegetarian diet and you eat meat, start over. Additionally, if you are sticking to three meals a day with no snacks and you have a snack, start over. However, you can structure your diet however you would like. But whatever you choose, stick to it.

5.) Two 45-minute workouts. One needs to be outside. It doesn’t matter if it is 100 degrees outside or snowing, one workout must be done outdoors. Disclaimer: This does not mean vigorous exercise. You are allowed to walk for both workouts if needed.

Look, I get it. We all have busy lives. It is easy to make the excuse that you don’t have time to complete these tasks every day. And if you’re one of those people, this is NOT the program for you. And I am not shaming you for it. It isn’t a program for everyone. Some people need to dip their toe in the pool while others jump in. However, there are 168 hours in a week and only 10.5 hours are needed for the weekly workouts. Don’t blame it on time, blame it on your priorities.

My first 75 Hard Experience:

I made the choice to commit to the 75 Hard Challenge in March 2020 when everything shut down because of COVID. I thought to myself, “I have all this free time, might as well be productive.” It was definitely an adjustment on my body. I worked out prior to this challenge, but two workouts a day put my body in shock. For my workouts I used the Centr App (by Chris Hemsworth) and did multiple challenges they provided. My second workout was always a walk outside. Something about breathing in the fresh air out in nature after wearing a mask all day was very therapeutic. For my diet, I focused on having 3 balanced meals a day with no snacks. Oh, and I gave up coffee because I am obviously psychotic. I felt myself shift throughout the program.

My mind was clearer. My drive was stronger. I even completed my nutrition certification during the program which is something I had been procrastinating. When I completed the program, I felt amazing. I had only lost 3lbs, but my progress photos were like night and day. My skin was clearer, I had more energy, I read 7 books and ended up taking 6 months off of drinking. 75 Hard changed my life for the better and I constantly recommend it to the people in my life.

75 hard

Why did I decide to do it again?

Simply put, because 75 Hard improved my quality of life back in 2020 and I was curious to see what it would do for me now that I have corrected some underlying issues with my Functional MD and dealt with emotional issues with my health coach. (Story for another day). I made a plan to start the program on February 14, 2022. Yes, Valentine’s Day. Because what better way to show myself love than by embarking on another mental toughness journey?

But I wanted to switch it up this time. Obviously not deviating from the rules but switching up the way that I structured the rules last time. I was going to weigh myself and take measurements after completing a set of 25 days. Measurements: Neck, Chest, Waist, Hips, R&L bicep, R&L quad, R&L calf.

Instead of the diet I did last time, I opted for a carb backloading program.

3 Meals/day, 5 hours apart. Meal 1&2: focus on fats, proteins, non-starchy vegetables. Meal 3: focus on carbs/starchy vegetables, protein, and non-starchy vegetables.

I also decided to take another break from coffee because again, I am a psychopath.

For my workouts, I kept my daily outdoor workout because the daily fresh air, vitamin D and time in nature was extremely therapeutic for me. But I decided that instead of using the Centr App this time, I would prioritize working on my lifts at the gym. I didn’t realize how much I missed lifting when my gym was closed but it is also a therapeutic for me but in a way different way that the walking is. Walking outside grounds me. It allows me to focus on gratitude and being more present. Lifting weights lets me work out my stress or emotions while simultaneously building up my confidence and knocking down my insecurities.

* Side Note: When someone is doing a form of exercise that they enjoy and that they see results with, please stop telling them that they should be doing the workouts that work for you. Your intentions may be good but not everything works the same way for people. Learn to be supportive of people during their journey instead of critical.

75 hard

Why do people look down on 75 Hard?

Before doing any program, I have done extensive research on it to find out the good, the bad, and everything in-between. I first heard about 75 Hard from my friend Rachel. She had a great experience with 75 Hard and could not say enough good things about it. However, I did find a few blogs online where people expressed their various concerns for the program. Some people simply do not like challenges because they feel it doesn’t actually teach you consistency while others had problems with the rules of 75 Hard themselves. Implementing long term good habits takes time and some people believe that challenges give people false hope instead of helping them improve.

Choose a diet/No cheats:

What various health professionals have said about this rule is that they are worried that the people participating in 75 Hard will do a fad diet without researching beforehand. Some people choose to go Keto, Vegan, etc. but don’t look at where they may cause deficiencies in certain individuals. Other professionals worry that doing this rule will cause people to be too restrictive to the point where they may have a negative relationship with good and develop an eating disorder.

While they make excellent points, I encourage anyone who attempts this challenge to do research, consult their physician, and make an educated decision about the diet that will benefit them the most during this challenge. You get to choose your diet; you get to choose how restrictive you are. When Andy talks about “no cheats,” he means eating something that doesn’t align with your chosen diet (example: if you choose Vegan and you consume an animal product, you start over. if you choose Keto and knock yourself out of ketosis, you start over. If you say that you are going to eat 3 healthy, balanced meals with no snacks and you have a snack, you start over). The cheat is dependent on the diet of your choice so plan accordingly.

Drink a gallon of water:

Some people find that this amount of water is simply too much for a person to consume in a day. We have been taught the 8-glass (64oz) rule for most of our lives so drinking a gallon (128oz) seems very intimidating and like it may be too much for a person to consume daily.

Water is insanely important. We are mostly made up of water, so it is important to consume enough water daily through drinking water or from fruits and veggies to avoid dehydration. The only critique I personally have of the water rule is that drinking all of this water daily could throw off the electrolyte balance in your body. To assist with this, I consume LMNT electrolytes daily.

Two workouts/One has to be outside:

“Your body needs rest!” “Working out that much can be so dangerous!” “This is how you injure yourself!” “This is too much stress on the body!” These are common complaints that health experts have when it comes to 75Hard.

Okay, here is the thing… not every workout needs to be rigorous. You are not required to lift heavy weights or run a daily marathon. You could even walk twice a day if that is what you wanted. The point of this rule, in my opinion, is to not only move your body daily, but to show that you have way more time in your day than you think. It shows that you prioritize the things in your life that matter to you. If moving more matters to you, then you’ll move more. Also, “rest days” don’t mean that you don’t move your body. If you lift heavy weights, on your rest day, you could lift lighter weights or use something like resistance bands. But daily movement is so beneficial for your health.

Progress Pictures:

A lot of people have body issues and taking a picture everyday can be stressful. Also, your body changes day to day depending on what you eat, how much water you drink, how you slept, etc. Taking a picture every day can trigger self-esteem issues and have a negative impact on a person

Personally, I love the daily pictures. It is true that your body changes daily, but it is nice to look back at pictures and see how your body has evolved throughout the program. You look at yourself every single day, so it is hard to notice any potential progress. Trust the process and learn to notice the small changes because they will end up being big changes.

Read 10 pages daily:

The only complaint I have heard about this one is people having a “lack of time.” So, I will ask this: Do you have time to watch tv at night? Do you snooze your alarm multiple times in the morning? Do you scroll endlessly on social media? If any of this is true for you, then you have time to read 10 pages a day. Reading is good for the soul. It helps to stimulate your brain and keep you motivated. There really is no downside to reading and if anyone complains about this rule, then they are just plain crazy (LOL).

75 hard

Round 2 Final Thoughts:

Where do I begin?

75 Days.

9600 gallons of water.

150 workouts

215+ miles of walking in nature.

75 strong lifts at the gym.

10 personal development books.

75 days devoted to me.

When someone asks me if 75 Hard is worth it, worth the effort, the long hours, the struggle, the sacrifice – My answer is this:

Absolutely.

I have pushed myself to pursue better. Better health, better relationships, better goals. I have learned so much about myself and the world around me. I knew what it felt like to give up, to fail, to hit rock bottom. Now I know what it feels like to show up for myself. To be consistent, go beyond any previous limits I had for myself and redesign my blueprint.

I have a lot of great areas of my life. But 75 Hard made me aspire to be great in all areas of my life.

I want to be a great daughter.
Sister.
Aunt.
Friend.
Partner.
Mother.
Teammate.
Coach.
Leader.
Person.

I want to make the world a better place. To have the ability to inspire people to do the same. I want to work hard and continue to learn and grow as a person. To continue to be in great shape and educate myself and others on improving their own health (mental as well as physical). I want to be proud of myself every step of the way.

I want to get the f*ck out of my own way.

Stop fearing failure.

Stop fearing rejection.

And embrace my entire f*cking journey.

Mental toughness is about battling yourself. Your fears, your demons, your insecurities. It is about winning the fight against yourself. It is knowing that life is filled with setbacks but if you keep showing up, if you keep trying, you win. You get knocked down and you stand back up, put your two middle fingers up towards life and say “is that all you got?”

Life is tough, but me? I am a f*cking warrior.

75 Hard has changed me for the better. My journey is far from over. I’m just getting started.

This round of 75 Hard was different for me. It is hard to put into words unless you have completed it. I had more breakdowns this time than I did my first round. My mental limits were tested a lot but I bounced back quicker than I normally do. I was able to brush things off when the old me used to hold onto things or overthink things.

I completed 75 Hard on April 29, 2022. The next day I went on a vacation to Mexico to celebrate completing this program and to get some much needed R&R. However, even though I was on vacation, I did not completely abandon the 75 Hard mindset. I still drank plenty of water, moved my body, read, and ate (mostly) clean.

When I got home from my trip, I cut down my lifts to 5 days a week, continued with my water and allowed my diet to be a little more flexible. After a month and a half of doing things this way, I realized that my body feels good lifting 7 days a week. I will share my current workout schedule in another post.

Will this be my last time doing 75 Hard? Absolutely not. This has by far been the best challenge for my head, heart and body and can see myself implementing it into my life for years to come.

Stop What You Are Doing and Make These Peanut Butter Brownie Cookies

In my opinion, peanut butter and chocolate is the greatest combo on earth. I pretty much love anything that includes these two ingredients. Especially when they are in a cookie.

When I started really getting into baking, I decided to experiment with different desserts to put my own spin on them. My aunt used to make these Brownie Cookie Sandwiches and I thought… Hmm, what if I took that brownie cookie and topped it with peanut butter to make a sort of deconstructed peanut butter cup cookie brownie thing.

When I make cookies around the holidays, I tend to make batches of 60 or so. That way I have some to put out for parties but I can also share some with my friends and family. This recipe is easy to cut in half if you would like to make a smaller batch. So let’s talk ingredients!

Ingredients:

2 boxes Ghirardelli Dark Chocolate Brownie Mix

2 eggs

1 (8 oz) brick of cream cheese, softened

1 stick of butter, melted

1.5 cups of peanut butter

1.5 cups powdered sugar

1 bag of dark chocolate chips

First, you will mix the brownie mix, eggs, cream cheese and butter in a bowl. I use a handheld mixer, but you can also use a KitchenAid mixer or mix by hand (this way is exhausting, just a heads up!)

Second, form the batter into 1 inch balls and place on a cookie sheet.

Bake on 350F for 12 minutes and allow to cool fully.

While the brownie cookies are cooling, mix together the peanut butter and powdered sugar. The consistency should be similar to cookie dough. You just want to make sure it isn’t too sticky so you can form it into 3/4 inch balls.

Once the brownie cookies are cooled, put the ball of peanut butter on the center of the cookie and push down gently.

Then you will melt your bag of chocolate and put a dollop of chocolate on top of the peanut butter. Allow chocolate to harden and enjoy!
